Hazrat Khawaja Syed Shah Imamuddin Chishti Nizami R.H was a distinguished Sufi saint of the Chishti-Nizami order — the branch of the Chishti silsila that flows through Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya R.H (d. 725 AH) of Delhi, one of the greatest saints in Islamic history whose dargah in Delhi remains a living center of Sufi spirituality. He combined three spiritual streams in his person: "Syed" (descendant of the Prophet ﷺ through the Ahl al-Bayt), "Chishti" (the order of Gharib Nawaz R.H emphasizing love and service), and "Nizami" (the specific branch through Nizamuddin Auliya R.H as distinct from the Sabiri branch through Alauddin Sabir Kaliyari R.H). His title "Khawaja" is the honorific used for masters of the Chishti order, linking him to the chain of Khawaja Gharib Nawaz → Khawaja Bakhtiyar Kaki → Khawaja Baba Farid → Khawaja Nizamuddin — the golden chain of Indian Sufism.

He received his spiritual training through this unbroken Chishti-Nizami chain, undergoing the rigorous disciplines of the order including khidmat (service to the Shaikh), prolonged Dhikr sessions, and the practice of Sama (spiritual music) that is the distinctive feature of the Chishti tradition. Among his karamaat, it is narrated that during his Sama gatherings, the spiritual atmosphere would become so intense that even skeptics who attended out of curiosity would find themselves weeping uncontrollably — overwhelmed by a divine presence they could not explain rationally. He was known for his strict adherence to the Chishti principle of refusing all contact with rulers and government — living in voluntary poverty while serving the poorest members of society, following the example of Nizamuddin Auliya R.H who famously said: "If the Sultan enters from one door, I will leave from the other." His khanqah maintained the Chishti tradition of daily langar — feeding all who came regardless of faith, caste, or status — the hallmark of Chishti hospitality since the time of Gharib Nawaz R.H in Ajmer.

His Wisaal on the 3rd of Dhu al-Hijjah is commemorated with Sama/Qawwali, Fatiha, Dhikr gatherings, and langar distribution — the authentic Chishti-Nizami way of honoring a departed saint through love, music, and service.
