Hazrat Allama Zafaruddin Bihari R.H, honored with the title "Mulk-ul-Ulama" (Scholar of the Nation), was one of the most prominent Islamic scholars and prolific authors of the Ahl-e-Sunnat tradition from Bihar, India — a state that has produced legendary scholars like Allama Mukhtar Ashraf Jilani and Mufti-e-Azam Bihar throughout history. He was born in Bihar during a period when the Muslim community faced severe challenges from deviant sects and reformist movements that sought to undermine traditional Sunni beliefs. His emergence as a scholar was seen as a divine gift to the community.

He received his early education in local madrasas of Bihar before traveling to the great centers of Islamic learning, where he studied under distinguished scholars and mastered Fiqh (Hanafi jurisprudence), Hadith, Tafsir, Aqeedah, Mantiq (logic), Arabic literature, and the art of scholarly debate (Munazara). The title "Mulk-ul-Ulama" was conferred upon him by the senior scholars of his era in recognition of his extraordinary command over all branches of Islamic knowledge — a title not given lightly, indicating that he was considered the foremost scholar of the entire nation during his lifetime. He authored dozens of scholarly works in Urdu, Arabic, and Persian on topics ranging from Aqeedah to Fiqh to refutations of deviant ideologies — his books are still prescribed as textbooks in Sunni madrasas across Bihar, Jharkhand, and Bengal.

He was a fearless debater who participated in numerous public Munazaras (scholarly debates) against Wahabi, Deobandi, and Qadiani opponents, decisively establishing the Ahl-e-Sunnat position with irrefutable proofs from Quran and Hadith. It is narrated that in one famous debate, his opponent was so overwhelmed by his arguments that he publicly conceded and accepted the Sunni creed on the spot — the audience numbered in thousands and the event strengthened Sunni identity in Bihar. He established and patronized several madrasas across Bihar that became centers of authentic Sunni scholarship, ensuring that the next generation would have access to sound Islamic education rooted in the tradition of Aala Hazrat Ahmed Raza Khan R.H.

His Friday sermons and public lectures would draw audiences of thousands — his ability to present complex theological arguments in simple, powerful Urdu made him beloved to both scholars and common Muslims alike. His annual Urs on the 19th of Jumada al-Thani is observed with scholarly conferences, Fatiha, Quran Khwani, and Naat gatherings in Bihar where his students and followers continue to propagate his scholarly legacy and defend the Ahl-e-Sunnat creed.
