Hazrat Sufi Iqbal Noori Sahab R.H was a distinguished Sufi saint and spiritual guide of Bareilly Shareef, Uttar Pradesh — the blessed city that serves as the spiritual capital of the Ahl-e-Sunnat tradition in India, home to the legacy of Aala Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan R.H (1856–1921 CE) whose scholarship in over 50 branches of knowledge and over 1,000 authored works remain unmatched in Islamic history. His name "Noori" (of Light/Radiance) was not merely a surname but a description of his spiritual state — those who sat in his company would report experiencing a tangible sense of spiritual illumination and inner peace that lingered long after they left his gathering. He was deeply rooted in the spiritual tradition of Bareilly Shareef, following the path of divine love and devotion to the Prophet ﷺ that Aala Hazrat R.H established as the cornerstone of the Barelvi spiritual methodology.
He received his spiritual training from authorized masters of the Qadiri silsila and was granted khilafat to guide seekers — his chain of spiritual authority connecting him through the saints of Bareilly back to Ghous-e-Azam R.H in Baghdad. Among his karamaat, devotees narrate that during his Dhikr gatherings, the fragrance of roses would fill the room even in winter when no flowers were present — attendees would look around in amazement, and he would simply smile and say: "When the Beloved's name is mentioned, even the air becomes fragrant." He was particularly renowned for his Dhikr circles (halqa-e-Dhikr) held every Thursday evening in Bareilly, where the collective remembrance of Allah would create such a powerful spiritual atmosphere that newcomers would often weep uncontrollably upon entering, overwhelmed by the divine presence. He lived a life of extreme simplicity despite being offered wealth by devotees — he would distribute everything he received to the poor, keeping only enough for his most basic needs, following the Sufi principle of tawakkul (trust in Allah).
He trained numerous disciples in the authentic Sufi practices of the Bareilly tradition, emphasizing that true Tasawwuf is inseparable from love of the Prophet ﷺ. His annual Urs on the 6th of Rabi al-Thani is observed in Bareilly Shareef with Quran Khwani, Fatiha, Dhikr gatherings, and Naat recitals where devotees honor this luminous saint and seek his spiritual blessings.
