विसाल इमाम ज़ैन उल आबिदीन

Hazrat Ali ibn al-Hussain R.H, known as "Zain al-Abidin" (Ornament of the Worshippers) and "Sajjad" (the one who prostrates much), was the son of Hazrat Imam Hussain R.A and the fourth Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt. He was born in Madinah in approximately 38 AH. He survived the tragedy of Karbala as he was severely ill during the battle, and Divine wisdom preserved him to continue the blessed lineage of the Prophet ﷺ.

After Karbala, he was taken captive to Damascus along with the women and children of the Prophet's ﷺ family, enduring immense hardship with patience and dignity. Upon his return to Madinah, he dedicated his entire life to worship, prayer, and feeding the poor — it is said he would carry bags of food on his back at night to distribute to the needy without revealing his identity. He was known for his extraordinary devotion to prayer — he would perform 1,000 rak'ahs of voluntary prayer daily, earning him the title "Zain al-Abidin." His greatest literary legacy is "Al-Sahifah al-Sajjadiyyah" — a collection of 54 profound supplications known as the "Psalms of Islam" or the "Gospel of the Ahl al-Bayt," which are among the most beautiful and spiritually profound prayers in Islamic literature.

He was known for his extreme generosity — when he passed away, it was discovered that he had been secretly supporting over 100 families in Madinah without anyone knowing. He passed away in Madinah in approximately 95 AH and is buried in Jannatul Baqi' beside his uncle Hazrat Imam Hassan R.A. His Wisaal on the 18th of Muharram is commemorated with Fatiha, Quran recitation, and gatherings of remembrance by devotees who honor this great Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt.
