Chand Raat (the Night of the Moon) is the night when the new crescent moon is sighted, marking the end of one Islamic month and the beginning of the next. The sighting of the new moon has deep religious significance in Islam, as the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Fast when you see it (the new moon) and break your fast when you see it." Muslims celebrate by preparing for the new month with prayers and anticipation.
