The Conquest of Makkah (Fateh Mecca) is one of the most glorious and momentous events in Islamic history, occurring on 20th Ramadan, 8 AH (11th January, 630 CE) — fulfilling the Quranic prophecy: "When comes the Help of Allah and the Conquest." (Surah An-Nasr, 110:1). The Prophet ﷺ prepared his march in complete secrecy and set out from Madinah with the largest Muslim army assembled until that point — approximately 10,000 companions. The Prophet ﷺ entered Makkah mounted on his camel, his head bowed in profound humility before Allah SWT, reciting Surah Al-Fath (the Chapter of Victory).
He ﷺ declared to the gathered Quraysh: "Go, for you are free!" This general amnesty was unprecedented in the history of warfare — no looting, no revenge, no forced conversions. Thousands accepted Islam on that day. All 360 idols inside and around the Kaaba were destroyed as the Prophet ﷺ recited: "Truth has come and falsehood has perished.
Indeed, falsehood is bound to perish." (17:81). The Conquest of Makkah marked the effective end of paganism in Arabia.
