Hazrat Peer Syed Mohammed Abdur Rehman Qadri R.H, known as "Bade Baghdadi Sahab" (the Great One from Baghdad), was a revered Sufi saint of the Qadiri order based in Hyderabad, Deccan — the city of the Nizams, which was one of the wealthiest and most culturally sophisticated Muslim states in the world during its golden era. He was a direct descendant of Hazrat Ghous-e-Azam Shaikh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani R.H (470–561 AH) of Baghdad, carrying the blessed bloodline of the greatest saint in Islamic history. His family migrated from Baghdad to the Deccan over generations, bringing the authentic Qadiri spiritual tradition directly from its source.
His title "Bade Baghdadi" (the Great Baghdadi) distinguished him from other members of the Baghdadi Sayyid community in Hyderabad, indicating his supreme spiritual rank among all the descendants of Ghous-e-Azam in the Deccan region. He established a magnificent khanqah in Hyderabad that became the headquarters of the Qadiri order in South India — featuring a beautiful mosque, a spacious hall for Dhikr gatherings, and quarters for traveling seekers and scholars. Among his karamaat, it is narrated that a man who had been unjustly imprisoned came to him in a dream seeking help.
Bade Baghdadi Sahab R.H appeared at the prison in the dream and told the man to recite specific verses — the next morning, the judge inexplicably reversed his decision and the man was freed. He was known for his grand Gyarwee Shareef gatherings on the 11th of every month — the largest Qadiri gatherings in all of Hyderabad, where hundreds would assemble for Dhikr, Fatiha, and the distribution of blessed food (niyaz). He maintained the authentic Baghdad-style Qadiri practices including the specific Dhikr formulas, the chain of spiritual transmission, and the etiquettes of the order as established by Ghous-e-Azam R.H himself over 800 years earlier.
His shrine in Hyderabad is a place of great reverence, and his annual Urs on the 11th of Muharram draws devotees from across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for Gyarwee Shareef, Fatiha, Qawwali, and Qadiri Dhikr gatherings.
